The luxury five-star, 220-room Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel, with stunning views of the Jungfrau mountain range in the heart of Interlaken, opened in 1865 and has hosted the likes of Mark Twain and other visiting dignitaries over the course of its 135-year history. Now the hotel is home to a spa that measures up to its traditional high standards. The ultramodern design of the state-of-the-art Spa Interlaken harmonizes with the venerable hotel, despite the disparity in age. The centerpiece of the spa is a swimming pool meant to evoke the grandeur of a Roman bath.
The spa complex includes a saltwater Jacuzzi, Turkish steam bath, Finnish sauna, bio-saunas with active-light therapy, a solarium, and a relaxation area. The “aqua-fun” water exercises are designed to aid the circulatory system. Foot reflexology, lymphatic drainage, and combined massages are guaranteed to induce relaxation.
Setting this spa apart from the other hotel-based facilities is its medical-fitness program, which was created through the cooperation of physicians and therapists. Each guest is prescribed an exercise regimen based on his or her strength, stamina, speed, mobility, and coordination. The program begins with the Victoria-Jungfrau Fit Test, which takes one hour to administer. Those in the program can use the Cybex 6000 equipment under supervision and can also select electrotherapy, heat and cold treatments, hydrotherapy, and manual therapy. The medical fitness program is combined with an evenly balanced nutritional program of cuisine minceur (1,500 calories daily, including a small glass of wine).
At the Victoria-Jungfrau beauty center, an analysis of skin type precedes the selection of a facial. Additional services at the center include anticel-lulite treatments, personal makeup, and hairstyling.
Hiking, golf, and tennis can be added to your program. There are seven tennis courts (four indoor, three outdoor) and an indoor golf facility. You’ll be fit to scale the Jungfrau after this precision-driven Swiss body tune-up.
